Looe to Talland Bay - Sunday 4th September 2011

The three mile walk ( 6 miles if you return) along the Cornish Coast path from West Looe to Talland Bay takes in some spectacular views along the way.
Starting from West Looe which can be accessed over the bridge at Looe from the Plymouth direction and turning immediate left and following the road up the hill.

An event which attracts hundreds of people.  Weather was forecast to be bad, but it held off til late afternoon when the heavens opened briefly.

Trevone to the lightboat station

This was a very hot day, and all sensible people were sunbathing, surfing and relaxing!  However, the scenery is outstanding as I hope you will agree:

I spy the Lifeboat Station!

Roseland Peninsula

I have some lovely photos of this walk that I would like to share with you.
By crossing via the King Harry Ferry, you get to The Roseland Peninsula and drive as far as you can until you reach a small car park.  The walk takes you round the coastal path and is described in the AA 50 Walks in Cornwall: Walk 29.

Me trying to look enthusiastic!

Porthbeor Beach

The sight of Porthbeor Beach is tantalising so you have to climb down the steep steps to walk along the sand.  After a rest for lunch, the steps seemed even steeper back up to the top. Then walking inland, you find St Anthonys Church and then a view of St Mawes and Pendennis across the water is breathtaking.

Mount Edgecombe via Cremyll Ferry

We caught the 10 15 Cremyll ferry across to Mount Edgecombe and started our walk by turning right behind the pub, and walking around the headland. We found the walk delightful as we walked around the coast and came across some hidden coves and harbours.  Walking across a road and up through a wood, we arrived at Maker Church.  From here, the footpath took us to Kingsand where the sun was shining and the pub beckoned.  After a slow half ( hic) we continued our walk towards Mount Edgecombe park, where a host of golden daffodiles swayed in the breeze. The walk was 8 miles long.

I've included a map to show the route.  We picked a good day and the 8 miles didn't seem so long!
